Reference checks are a crucial aspect of due diligence in the recruitment process. Verifying a candidate’s credibility is essential to mitigating fraud risks and maintaining the integrity and security of your workforce.

References help identify potential red flags or concerns that may indicate a candidate is not suitable for the role. Additionally, they provide a way to confirm a candidate’s skill set and other qualifications, ensuring they are the right fit for the position.

Typically, RefNow facilitates employment reference checks for the past 5–7 years, but older references can be requested based on employer requirements.

The availability of older references depends on whether the previous employer retains records and is willing to provide them. Our system enables references to be added back to January 1970, if needed.

RefNow ensures references come from verified referees, such as HR or managers, minimising the risk of falsified information. We also have the ability to personal email addresses to ensure references are completed only from legitimate work email addresses, enhancing verification.

Employers must provide truthful information in compliance with data protection laws (e.g., GDPR).

Structured forms combined with advanced fraud detection further improves accuracy.

Recruiters may request up to 10 reference checks from a candidate, which can include a combination of personal, professional, and academic references. This approach ensures a well-rounded evaluation of the candidate’s background and suitability for the role.
