The BPSS describes the mandatory pre-employment controls required by the government when hiring for public sector roles. The BPSS seeks to address the risks of identity fraud, illegal working and deception generally.
In addition to these risks, the standard also sets out to minimise risk to reputation, integrity of the hiring organisation and financial assets that may sit within the remit of the applicant should the job be awarded.
Under the BPSS guidance, it is clearly stated that the employee must consent to a check. No pre-employment checking can be carried out without this consent. While there is no standardised way in which the employee’s or applicant’s consent is gathered, it is advised only to consider email consent or written consent.
While the time required for individuals to access and complete the information required to enable the processing of the check via the Konfir system can vary, the average time a candidate needs is typically between 2-3 minutes.
